Boring is the New Wonderful

BeachYesterday was boring.

By that I mean, ordinary.

It was an ordinary Saturday. Like the weekends I remember. From our life before.

Here’s how it went:

We woke up early.

Noted that the #3 kid will likely have purple hair the next time we see her, based on the state of the bathroom.

Went back to bed.

Woke up later. Drank tea and bone broth. Put together a menu plan for the week (using the Healing Kitchen our new favourite cookbook). Wrote grocery lists.

Did house stuff.

I went to yoga. Matthew did the first wave of grocery shopping.

We made brunch. Here it is:Brunch

The teenager awoke: purple hair confirmed.

She went out.

We made tea in go-cups and drove to the beach. Watched the water and talked about nothing in particular.

Did more grocery shopping.

Bought water containers at Canadian Tire for our update-the-emergency-kit project (because Fort McMurray).

Came home. I filled up the containers with water and stashed them.

We made supper. Here it is:Supper

While eating, we watched the new episode of Peaky Blinders.

Played scrabble with the #3 kid when she got home.

Went to bed.

Are you still with me?

Boring, right?

After 28 months on the AIP, Matthew went back to work. After 29 months, we had our first boring day.

It was wonderful.

  1. Boring is good. I like boring. I called it Peace. Petra, are you doing ketogenic? Looking at two of your beautiful plates on would think so.

  2. I couldn’t agree more. I’d love a boring day that is not about being ill or looking for nearby loos! How I would like to have reached that stage! But no im still reacting to symptoms a lot of the time. Committing to anything is nearly impossible and spending a whole day with people is a no no. But your family’s story is inspiring so thank you x

  3. Yes! I believe that’s the silver lining to autoimmune disease–perspective. We learn to look at things in a way that not a lot of people do.

  4. Sounds like a pretty nice lifestyle to me! that’s what I’m currently trying to achieve in my own life, a more balanced healthy existence, and minimal time on the gadgets (which is hard considering I run an online thing, like yourself with this site)

Food looks delicious by the way, good stuff!

  5. Boring is an interesting word to change out for finding and living with peace and contentment. Living without Drama is FUN!
